As I understand it, Macbooks have a built-in adaptor to connect to wireless, but do i need to also buy a usb router adaptor for my Mac Mini (or do they have anything built-in)?
Unless your Mac mini is one of the very early models with G4 processor (only 2 USB ports on the rear) it will already have a wifi adapter built in, so you wouldn't need additional hardware. Those early models had wifi (Apple call it Airport) as an option which could be added at the time or purchase, or with a kit of parts later.
I was going to get a Netgear Wireless Router. Can I plug my Mac Mini in via a cable and just have the Macbook wireless?
You can actually keep the wired-only router you already have and simply then share the mini's wifi and thus have the mini act as a wifi access point. I can't say this is a good way to do it however, since it means the mini has to be running and awake in order for the MacBook to access it - and with the mini's wifi antenna being small and relatively insensitive, you would likely find the wifi range was rather limited and unpredictable. Better to replace your current router with the wifi model, and have both systems connect via that. The mini can then be used wireless or wired, and the MacBook wireless only. That would work just fine.
